AKG K181 DJ Closed Back Headphones : Decent, but uncomfortable

I appreciated the mono/stereo switch on these, the removable cable and the sound quality back when i purchased these. I was quite fond of them though they were quick to feel uncomfortable and the padding does begin to peel away after some time.

I won a pair of these in a prize-draw three years ago. They’ve had a fair bit of use over that time, and have been my staple casual listening headphones at work. The sound quality is excellent – the bass response is brilliant – plus they’re well built and very comfortable. I was so impressed i bought a pair of akg k701s for home use. I’d give them 5/5 but unfortunately the k181s have not stood the test of time. After about a year, the plastic began to fatigue and cracked just above the ear cups and on the band. Yesterday, finally, something snapped and now they’re unusable. I’d replace them in an instant if i thought the same thing wouldn’t happen with a new pair, but unless they’re making them with a different type of plastic i don’t think i’ll risk it.

Has decent volume with phones & low impendence devices etc, presents clarity in songs. Impressive bass with the switch however songs sound lacking without it (i’d recommend this for edm/trap/hiphop listeners). This pair has makes a strong clamp onto your ears which, whilst securing minimal sound leakage, do seem to make my ears comfortable after an hour or so. Overall, i’m very happy with my purchase.

They’re not really durable, but quality is so good still deserves 5 stars even though i bought 5 of these already.

After djing in clubs for over 15 years, i always looked to the more expensive options to ensure quality. However after reading these reviews i thought i’d give these a try and they are perhaps my favorite pair of headphones i’ve ever used. They sound so crisp in even big clubs and the bass response is fantastic.

Likes:they were only £100they fold up so i can put them in my laptop bag while travelling and don’t take up too much room. The sound is good and gets better as they burn in. I like the bass and it doesn’t ruin the midrange and treble too muchthey are quite discreet. Dislikes:they are on ear which makes them very uncomfortable even after an hours use. I’d prefer them if they were around ear. They could do with an amp when using with an ipod as the volume level is quite low. Sound attenuation isn’t great especially when on a plane. All in all i rate these earphones as good as they sound better than any other phones i’ve heard at this price.

Fantastic sound would recommend.

Great sound, great isolation, love the fact you can replace the wire, as that’s usually what goes first on any set of headphones. Only negative thing is that they’re quite heavy so my head starts to hurt after a while.
