Alessi A di La Cupola Espresso Coffee Maker : beautiful

Bought this yesterday as coffee machine being repaired and this is a good easy way of getting some coffee in the house. Use it on our aga and it works a treat. As well as being such a nice item to look at it also works so well too. It does get hot though when being used, did expect lots of steam and that to come from it and maybe a little more noise than it produced. Handwash only but not a big deal. This combined with a igneix milk frother and warmer has enabled us to have fresh coffee again. So when coffee machine back think this will still be used as well as looking such a funky item in the kitchen. Price wise not that much different to some non designer brands, plus this does look a little quirky.

A nice stylish coffee pot and it makes nice coffee but you can easily burn your fingers as the handle gets very hot at the point where it joins the aluminium pot. To me, that’s a design fault as the heat resistant handle is too thin. Saying that, the handle on my 6 cup alessi pulcina also gets very hot and that handle is thicker. I now use a cloth to pick it up and before you ask i do only use the smallest gas ring on a very low flame.

Lovely wel-finished espresso coffee maker. Exactly what you’d expect from this brand.

I bought this for my husband. He loves it and uses it all the time. Although in hindsight the 6 cup one was a little big, given that i dont drink coffee. It looks really nice in the kitchen though.

We bought this coffee pot (correctly called a moka) in sicily 9 years ago. Since then we have used it regularly to make what we think is great coffee (i’m no expert). The 3 cup size is perfect for a large cappuccino or for 2 ‘british coffee cup’ sized cappuccinos. Once made the mistake of putting part of the pot in the dishwasher which dulled the aluminium. Since then we’ve followed the instructions and only rinsed the pot in warm water, leaving the coffee residue to coat the insides of the pot. [update sept 2011i can recommend the following replacement filter set: la cafetiere bialetti washer and filter set to suit – moka dama 3 cup, replacement part. ]

I bought this to replace my previous one. Love its shape and the coffee it makes. The rubber seal of my previous one had stopped working. Hope thia on lasts at least as long as the last one.

Fab product, highly recommended.

The Designer

Aldo Rossi

Born in Milan (1931-1997), he is considered by many to be the greatest Italian architect of the second half of the 20th century. His life as an architect started with Gardella and Zanuso. An author of abstraction, reduction and brevitas, his severe language of primary shapes, geometrical patterns and silent evocation created some of the most intensely poetic works of architecture and design in his age.

Alessigraphy: the geography of Alessi production

Since the Company’s foundation in 1921 the majority of Alessi products have been manufactured through the cold working of metals, a tradition that is kept alive today by the skilled workers at the Crusinallo plant in Omegna.

Over time, Alessi also began to work with many other materials, such as porcelain, glass, wood, and plastic… A specific production method was developed for each one. Even when production takes place outside the Crusinallo plant, Alessi’s guidelines guarantee the company’s original production quality standards, continuing to reconcile industrial technological complexity with an artisanal eye for detail.

The objects produced from the different materials are manufactured in various production plants across the world. They remain original Alessi objects in that they are conceived with the same design excellence and produced with the same attention to quality that sets the company’s products apart.

This is an excellent product and has great style.

I was given this when my old (cheap) coffee maker gave up the ghost. It’s excellent and looks very nice (which is what you’re paying for). Only problem has been obtaining a replacement rubber seal for it – i’m still trying.

I already have one of these and bought this one for my nephew as a present. It is the best stove top espresso maker available – made for people who are interested in good coffee rather than the plethora of expensive gadgets on the market nowadays. Alessi – please manufacture this model in stainless steel for those of us with induction hobs.

Nice looking and in constant use.

It was for a present & recipients were very pleased.
