Audioengine A5+ Classic 150W Powered Bookshelf Speakers | Built-in Analog Amplifier | Remote Control | RCA and 3.5mm inputs | Cables included (Wired, White) – Amazing sound!

I was not at all surprised to see this speaker system favourably reviewed in the avguide.

I needed a pair of bedroom speakers and have read many reviews for the audioengine a2+ vs the a5+. At the end i got the a5+ because i wanted the power to fill the room and more flexibility. The sound quality of the thing paired with my macbook pro is great. Just the right amount of bass i need (don’t think i’ll ever need extra sub for them), great clear vocal though these speakers are towards the warmer side, meaning that you’ll get more bass than treble. Only down side is that the sound quality isn’t good when i pair them with the iphone 5s and nexus 5. I guess these phones don’t have a nice sound chip in them like the macbook pro?end of the day i guess the a2+ would do a nice job too since they have a built in dac. Though i have not tried them so not sure if they will fill my room or potentially my living room later on.

I’m a very practical guy who is passionate about good sounding audio. My pragmatism is what drove me to choose a pc based digital library of music as it really was the easiest/most practical solution to enjoying my hobby. In that sense, i believe i am exactly the kind of guy these are marketed towards. I am by no means knowledgeable in speaker territory (these are the finest speakers i have owned yet) but i have listened to some good setups before and let me tell you that i was still extremely impressed by these. They may seem expensive for their supposed applications, especially considering the lo-fi approach to audio that has become widespread by today’s standards, but if you take special pleasure in the details and your audio sounding good, then you will not be disappointed. Just for the record, i am connecting these to an asus xonar essence one muses edition dac. They sound amazing out of the box and do not require a subwoofer in my opinion. 1 logitech system provided the same amount of bass and they had a dedicated subwoofer.(less ‘clear’ and ‘thumpy’, though.

Awesome speakers and bartlett’s hifi customer service is second to none. Cant speak highly enough of well they treat customers, thanks.

Ridiculously good sound and quality of build.

Just received these speakers today, and after a 10 minute setup i could experience the amazing sound these speakers make. The quality is just amazing, rich, deep base, and those clear highs. Have been listening to music for 2-3 hours straight (on spotify) and i just can’t stop now. Before i bought these i made a deep research about the a5+, and was wondering how every single review is positive. Everything’s clear now after getting them. Although forget the sound tests on youtube, those will never even get close to the actual quality of these amazing speakers. Definitely worth the money, you won’t regret buying them. Have them connected to my pc via optical audio cable (fisual) to a fiio d3 (dac) and an rca cable (fisual), and i’m using auralex mopads as my the stands.

I was looking at the audioengine a2s but after reading various reviews i decided to throw a bit more cash in there and go for the a5+. £300 for a pair of computer speakers sounds a bit steep but the quality of these is immense. The build quality is about as good as it gets, they feel immensely solid and without any shortcuts or compromises being made on making them as good as they can make them. They are very heavy, especially the one which holds the amp unit, and are fairly big for putting on your desktop. Sound quality is clear and they go really l-o-u-d if you want them to. You also have a remote control though i find it easy to control the level from my computer. I’ve also ran tv output through these and you can if you wish have two inputs going in there (really it goes down to cable lengths). If you can afford to splash out that bit extra and you appreciate quality then these will exceed all your expectations.

I bought a set of these from audiovisual in white, i already own a black set but stood next to each other i think the white set look far more classy, as far as sound quality just like my black set goes these are superb speakers, the clarity of the highs is really well defined as is the midrange while the base is a nice clear thump rather than a muddy boom, and there is plenty of it. Unless you are addicted to heavy heavy bass its unlikely you will want a sub, although there are outputs on the amplified speaker to connect one should you wish. If you did want to use them as pc speakers as i do you will need plenty of desk space as these are a fair size, i have had to put mine under the desk so they can get a bit boomy but still sound fantastic all the same. I bought the audioengine a5’s to replace my 2. 1 desktops speakers as i wanted some midrange, something that i haven’t been able to get from any set of 2. 1’s from cheap £50 sets up to sets of bose they all seem to be all highs and lows with nothing in the middle, the audioengine a5’s do the job, great for a long session gaming on battlefield 3, but also they have turned my pc into a fantastic sounding hi fi. If you are unsure then just get them, you wont be disappointed, you can always return them if your not happy but if you don’t try you will never know.

There is probably little more i can say about the audioengine a5+ speakers than hasn’t been said in any other review – they are simply fantastic value for the quality and depth of sound you get. I bought these for a home cinema setup, avoiding buying a separate subwoofer at this point, and past the initial run in period they have proved to be worth every penny. The bass is loud and punchy; the treble is clear and sharp. I’m no audiophile but after weeks of using these i’m not disappointed that i chose these. Just be aware that the left channel housing the amp is quite heavy, so if you want to wall mount them you need a reasonably strong mount.

Will write review later, but perfectly happy with the purchase 2 years later.

My a5 speakers developed a problem after nearly two years of daily use. The uk distributor (with audioengine’s consent) replaced the faulty speakers with a new pair of a5+ speakers. These are excellent speakers.

Brilliant straight out of the boxi wanted a set of decent desktop speakers to work alongside my 2012 mac mini and itunes; i consider myself to be a fickle audiophile. I’ve a cyrus 8dac and kef ls50 system in my living room and a nad d3020 & kef r100 system upstairs but didn’t want to faff with a separates system in my officei did try the q acoustics bt3’s but they were very bright from the word go and their bass is lacklustrethe audioengine a5+’s are brilliant straight out of the box. Connected to my mac mini via optical and a fiio d3 dac they sing superbly with weighted bass, smooth but open/detailed midrange and a great top-end that’s clear and precise but not bright in any wayif you’re after a decent set of powered speakers for either your desktop system or to go on stands; i can highly recommend these.

Bought these speakers for the pc in my living room. It’s a large space so i felt that the a2s would’ve lacked the required power. But given that these can make the whole room shake when on full blast i may have underestimated their power lol. The sound quality is excellent and whilst i don’t have the audio engine dac for the wired connection from my pc i find that the quality is just as good as when i’m using the wireless, which goes through the audio engine dac. I also bought the stands to go with them and would definitely recommend you get them unless you have an adequate place to put them already as they greatly reduce the amount of reverb that goes through my pc desk. Anyway top speakers and i can’t fault them. After owning a set of jbl creatures for quite some time i decided to invest in the audioengine a5+ speakers as well as the audioengine d1 dac. Absolutely yes yes and another yes, but i needed to make some adjustments to the way i listen to music to fully appreciate them. After receiving these speakers i was really impressed by the look and build. They are very well built and look fantastic. Once i plugged them in and connected them to my dac i was impressed with the sound and initially they were sitting on a comfortable 4 stars. However as i started to play more and more music i became more and more unsure of them. Some stuff sounded great, other stuff sounded terrible, and i just wasn’t as blown away as i felt i should have been.

I ordered these on the weekend and they came monday morning. Delighted with the speakers too, although i’m not sure my neighbours are.

Had the a5’s for 6 years used with my laptop. These a5+, i am using as my main hifi system speakers and not now using separate amplifier, i consider them very good and i am very fussy about good sound quality.

The sound quality compared to my previous speaker system is superb (cambridge sound which was more than 10 years old). There is improvement in all recorded formats and even music streamed via spotify sounds excellent in comparison to before. The wireless setup is easy and despite my wife’s tech scepticism she plays her yoga app from her iphone and finds it simple and produces a great sound. Wired to a blue ray there is a great sound quality over the tv sound alone. I will buy some stands to reduce the risk of speaker damage so close to the ground and where there is no speaker cover. If connecting from multiple sources yo do need to remember to disconnect any wiring as there is no source switch but that’s not difficult.

Great speakers would recommend, still quite expensive but punch way above there price range.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Excellent sound
  • Expensive but worth every penny
  • Great Speakers – no need for Subwoofer
