Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones : Essential if you’re traveling by plane

When you spend so much money on something it can be quite difficult to be objective with a review, unless the product is not up standard and you want to deter others from wasting your money. For that reason, you’re likely to only see good reviews for these headphones. I’ll attempt to be a little more balanced. For me – the big selling point of these headphones is the great in-ear fit and comfort for long durations of listening and being able to sleep on a plane with them in. If this is what you’re after – steer clear of the over or on ear options. Competitors at the in-ear market are sadly scarce. As far as the noise cancellation – these headphones do an excellent job. It’s actually quite surreal at first. They do pop as you enter a tunnel or pass another train – this is an issue with all anc headphones i’ve tried so you’ll have to learn to tolerate it. You’ll still hear voices with these – perhaps clearer than you otherwise would now that the noise has been eliminated.

Happy with the noise cancellation quality (truly better than other headphones). But i bought the iphone version for my iphone 7 plus and the volume up/down not working at all. Will it be ok for you to test it and send one that works for me?. I kind of expect no fault when i am paying £200+ for a pair of headphone. Please response or i will return the item in three days.

I barely ever write reviews. The noise cancelling is better than my over-the-ear pair i got a couple of years ago. Incredible for getting rid of annoying machine hums like air conditioners, or showers in an adjacent room, or hubub in an office. Just really, really amazing.

Really like these, anc is fantastic for public transport. 2 slight downsides for me, seems a but quiet, i’d rather have a bit more volume, but i like to listen at high levels anyway, probably fine for most (although sound quality is fantastic don’t get me wrong). The anc battery controller bit, is pretty big and gets in the way, especially when plugging into my phone and putting in my pocket. Neither of these are showstoppers.

Obviously these are expensive but you get what you pay for. The second you turn them on, you realise why. The noise cancelling is very impressive and always surprisingly how well it actually works. Brilliant for the office if you want some peace and quiet, simply turning them on will cut out any normal volume chat. If you listen to music at even a low volume, you won’t be able to hear anything else. It’s a shame they’re so expensive and more people don’t get to try them out.

They produce high quality sound and are reasonably comfortable to wear. However, they do have a very short cable going from the battery to the headphone jack, which is annoying when trying to find a place to put the battery pack. The headphones do cancel out sound very well and are easy to carry when packed in their included case. I also like the fact that you can switch the noise cancelling off and let some sound through, its useful when trying to listen to people or when you need to hear traffic. I should point out, though, that they don’t cancel out sound as well as my bose over-ear headphones. They do come with small, medium and large earpieces, though, which is goodoverall, i’d definitely recommend them, but only if you need portability and concealment over noise cancelling capabilities.

Excellent sound from these in-ear headphones. The noise cancelling is very effective against low frequency noises (like engines) but don’t do as well with higher pitched sounds so voices which are muffled but can still be heard. In the cord is a small control unit which allows the volume to be changed, muted and the noise cancelling switched off so you can hear things when you need to easily. The rechargeable battery uses the same usb connector as many mobile phones and whilst it lasts for around 16 hours it charges up in around 2 hours. Quite compact when put into the supplied pouch, ideal for travelling. Highly recommended if you can justify the price tag.

These headphones offer excellent noise cancelling in a small travel friendly package. I have one set myself and this pair was a gift. They perform well, are great in an aeroplane or on a commute and are capable of holding a charge that lasts a couple of days for me. The travel pouch they come in is a little small and you have to be careful not to bend the cable as it enters/exits the battery – my other pair had to go back for warranty replacement within a year due to a split cable – excellent bose service.

I bought these on sale, and this is one of the best purchases i’ve made. I didn’t think that ear buds would work to keep the noise out, but as soon as i switched them on–almost perfect silence. I used these on two trans-atlantic trips sitting in the back of the plane, and when i commute to work by train. Unlike cans, these are comfortable to wear, even for hours–and even if you wear glasses. Music is very clear, with vivid rendition across the spectrum. Bear in mind that noise cancelling ear buds are not designed to block out talking (or idiotic electronic train and tube announcements).

Great headphones, i look at others with the big bulky bose headphones (or other brands) and think i want those, then when i put these on i think of the space im saving and the aggro of them and messing up my hair etc. Last a good 10 hours on board long haul. 2 negatives, expensive, and the cable is too short from jack plug to control unit, needs atleast 6 inches more.

Bought the bose as a replacement for an old pair of shures (noise isolation earbuds) and sorry to say that so far the bose feels unremarkable. There is only one positive that i can find with these earbuds, which is that the noise cancellation function works well on a train (the effect is noticeable). On the other hand, i am not particularly impressed by the material and the build of the earbuds (the wires in particular feel flimsy), nor the sound quality (overly bass-y for my taste). Audio quality is marginal compared with my old pair of shures, particularly when listening to podcasts (noise cancellation accentuates vocals and becomes extremely distracting when background voices are audible); overall the bose sounds muted to my ears. On top of that, i do feel a bit nauseous after wearing these earbuds with the noise cancellation on (after searching online a bit, it would seem that this is a common symptom for some users). Overall, i find myself to prefer noise isolation earbuds over noise cancellation earbuds, but that’s no fault of the bose and if noise cancellation is a key feature for you, then these bose earbuds do work quite well.

I spend a lot of time travelling for work, and a colleague recommended these. One of the best purchases i have ever made and makes travelling so much nicer. They not only drown out the noise of fellow passengers (including screaming children on planes), but they also eliminate the background “hum” of the engine you get on both trains and planes, making it easier to relax. Will often just use these on their own with no music as an comparable substitute for ear-plugs. Some have commented negatively about wear and tear on the cable, but i’ve had these for a year and still good as new (and they come with a decent carry case).

Sound good but not for something of this price. Think it would be great for acoustic and vocal music but i listen to a fair bit of music with more of a kick and when the volumes high it gets muddy. Build quality is good, comfort and fit are second to none but not worth £250 even a push for the £130 i paid for them. Oh by the way, the noise cancelling is incredible. Have a rediculously loud bike that my friends say they can hear coming minutes down the road and even at full rip can hardly hear it with there in.

There are a few key biylts if technology i’d never be without now, and if they were to break, i’d buy a new one straight away without need for thought. These earphones are now part of that pantheon. The noise cancelling is world class, the sound is good (audiophiles don’t seem to rate it but i have no complaints), the battery life is excellent and they’re comfortable. I always used to feel sort of out of it on planes, like i was in a dream or something. Since i started using these, it’s a whole new experience. I feel much fresher, and more aware. When you flip that button, even of you’re not playing music, all that noise of the engines just fades into the distance. It doesn’t completely disappear (although if you’re listening to music it effectively will), but instead seems much further away and a lot quieter. Turn it off again and all of a sudden you get bombarded with sound and that’s when you realise how amazing this technology is. The best yardstick to judge this product by is the answer to this question: would i buy these again now i’ve used them a lot in all sorts of environments?.

I’m no audiophile and have bought numerous sets of cheaper headphones in the past and have been happy with their performance. However i have a series of long haul flights coming up for work, so decided to bite the bullet and invest in some more expensive headphones. Omg i should have bought these long ago, the old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ completely applies to these headphones. I’ve just done my first long haul flight to mexico and these headphones were a god send. I actually managed to sleep on the flight, something i’ve always found difficult to do. Whilst not blocking out all noise, higher frequencies are present but distant, they did remove all of the plane engine background noise allowing me to sleep, i wore them for 11 hours straight with no discomfort. Sound quality is superb with great dynamic range. The only downside now is that my old cheaper headphones are consigned to the backup bin and i’ve invested in some bose soundsport wireless headphones to replace my old vava set, i thought these were ok but bose have spoiled me.
