Dualit Bean to Go : Read the instructions carefully in order to produce good coffee!

This machine makes excellent coffee and is so easy to use even my luddite husband can work it. Pros:the instructions are really easy to follow. The rinse function is simple to operate – there’s an automatic rinse when you turn it on, and you can do an extra rinse manually if you want to. You can very easily adjust the amount of water dispensed with the coffee. It’s extremely quick to warm up and delivers coffee fast. The grinding noise is not too loud or piercing, it’s quite well muted. The milk steamer works extremely well with little dilution of the milk being steamedsoya milk is steamed to perfection, i’ve had the best soya hot chocolates ever with this machine. Cleaning and servicing is very straightforward. Cons:think carefully about where you will position the machine in your kitchen. The water tank, placed at the back, lifts out vertically – and there is not enough room between my kitchen counter and the cupboards above for it to lift out and away.

Makes great tasting coffee and easy to maintain.

After learning how to operate this dualit machine, we are enjoying using it to produce good quality coffees at home. However, this process of learning about it properly has taken a couple of weeks. I would say that buying this coffee machine best suits the kind of people who are willing to actually read an instruction manual and then try various tweaks and different settings in order to create a coffee that suits you. If you don’t read the manual and allow that you will need to do some tweaking over at least multiple cups of coffee, then you may end up producing poor quality coffee and end up feeling frustratedafter unboxing, the first thing you have to do is carefully assemble the various parts. This is not at all difficult, but you do need to pay attention to some of the details – for example there is an infuser that might be damaged if you were to put it into a dishwasher. The very first time we used the dualit, it took us about 15 minutes of reading the manual and following the steps and diagrams before we got our first cup of so-so coffee. For example, before using the machine for the first time, you have to do a “manual rinse” to make sure that the nozzles are clean. (you also need to do this manual rinse at the end of each day in order to prevent the build up of either coffee residue or mould. )the manual and diagrams outline all of the steps required in order to produce espresso or longer coffee drinks. There is also advice of course on how to use the milk wand to steam and froth the milk.

We’ve been very happily using a big and cranky delongi bean-to-cup machine for years now. It makes great coffee but it’s the size of a small microwave and hogs a lot of worktop space. I was a bit cautious when replacing that with the much smaller dualit, worried that they would have had to compromise significantly in order to get the the size down so dramatically. The good news, and it’s all good news with this machine, is that they absolutely haven’t compromised. The space saving appears to have been achieved by eliminating any wasted space inside the machine and bringing the infuser mechanism around to the side rather than running across the front of the unit. If you’ve lived with glorious noisy and brittle bean to cup machines at home you’ll know that design is largely secondary; you pretty much just want your espresso hit and that’s it. Here though, design is simply gorgeous; materials are harmonious together and constructed of high grades. It looks fantastic and feels amazing in operation; smooth and reliable. No doubt the infuser and internals will need similar levels of care and cleaning but the machine will look good while you do it. We did a bunch of side-by-side taste tests and the dualit produced coffee every bit as good as it’s larger rival, with consistently strong crema and good deep levels of taste.

This was well packaged and was very easily set up. I have a different brand bean to cup machine and was pleased to note that this took up less space on the worktop. I followed the clear instructions and it was set up in no time at all. Each section that comes out or takes apart does so easily and therefore the cleaning of each part is quite easy. It has taken me the best part of a week and several coffees a day to really make the perfect coffee. Even so each persons taste is personal to them, and so it is importance to persevere with the different sized coffee grinds- as even with my usual coffee i felt that i was making a bitter drink that really wasn’t very nice. Having adjusted the grind size several different times i finally got it just right. I am not an espresso drinker – but have a love of coffee shop lattes – and this was a great comparison. I loved the steaming wand- my current coffee to bean machine uses a long plastic thin tube to pump the milk through and out into the drinks- this is an absolute nightmare to clean- and although a steaming wand means i have to do this bit manually- it doesn’t take long – and is much, much easier to clean afterwards. So much easier- and my current machine is actually twice the price of this one- so this one is winning on size, ease to clean and use for a much more realistic budget.

This is very smart looking and easy to set up machine that produces delicious espresso with a lovely crema. The instructions are quite clear and we were producing delicious little espresso coffees within 20 minutes. We are having more trouble mastering the milk steamer, the first time we used it we got foam no problem but have had nothing but steamed milk since. Bit hard to tell when hot enough, just going by feeling the outside of the mug. I expect we will get the hang of it. It also requests a lot of end of day cleaning and running water through so will have to develop new habits. I do like it but as with any bean to cup machine you need to sacrifice a bit of time to fiddle and get things just how you like them. Comes with 2 little packets of coffee beans in different flavours to start you off.

This is a lovely machine which would be useful for lovers of quality coffee or for anyone who enjoys entertaining. It has a built in grinder which produces five different sizes of grounds and an adjustable dose function to deliver your preferred strength of coffee. The coffee nozzle is also adjustable to suit the height of your cup. The instruction book includes recipes for americano, latte, cappuccino, mocha, flat white, hot chocolate and babycino (cappuccino without the coffee). The steaming wand makes hot and frothed milk which can also be used for hot chocolate drinks. It sounds really good, and it is. It is worth doing a bit of experimentation as it takes time to master the instructions for all the different functions, but it is fun to take orders from guests and produce barista style coffees for their delectation. The instruction booklet is well set out and easily understood. It also contains lots of illustrations so you can’t really go wrong with setting up or using the machine. At the end of each day the machine needs to be cleaned using an 18 step routine which i find quite fiddly.

I thought it worth adding some photos of the unboxing process as it was a joy and as the packaging unfolds it invites you to register the machine, after that comes the instruction manual (english) which is very clear to understand but there is a fair bit to take in. The recipes at the end of the manual were a big help to getting going with our first creations, once were setup. Out of the box this dualit bean to go machine is a compact stunner and it adds a touch of class. It’s made from a robust wipe clean plastic finish, the design is simple and it looks like a coffee machine, not like some of the other designs on the market. Setting up was simple, everything clicks into place seamlessly, the drip tray is magnetically held in place which is a nice touch, the nozzle height adjust has a smooth controlled motion and the service door on the side is held in place by magnets that hinge access to the infuser. It will be different for everyone where they put their coffee machine but in my case the wall unit height hindered access to the water tank which created the frustration of having to pull the machine forward each time to gain access to fill. Filling the hopper was easy, the two bags of beans provided were a nice touch to get you going straight out of the box. As the manual talks you through there are a number of steps for cleaning and daily care, all of which are easy as the various components clip apart easily. There is a fair bit of daily maintenance with this machine and i feel this where it sets its self-up as a true coffee lovers machine, it’s going to become part of your daily routine, as is tinkering with the grind settings and perfecting a milk froth. In use over the past weeks we have been really pleased with our coffee creations but i feel we will still be learning for a while longer, it does get used every day and the ground coffee aroma gets me started every day.

This coffee maker took a while to set up, but once you finally work out how to customise the maker it is very straight forward to use. A tip would be to use the coffee beans provided with maker to work out how to use the machine. Coffee hopper holds almost a a whole bag of 250g roasted beans and there is a dial inside the hopper to adjust the grind to your preferences. There are several cup sizes of coffee to chose from that are preset in volume (though the amount of liquid can be adjusted to your preferred cup size). It makes a nice coffee, but they cups are very small and do not seem all that strong unless double or triple dosing of you require a longer drink. The hot water dispenser and cleaning function is a little hit and miss at times to get working as you need to press the one button at the same time as the water button for clean else you end up just dispensing hot water into the drip tray. Cleaning the machine at the end of the day is quite simple. Just removing the parts from the easy access panel on the side and rinsing out the coffee grounds that have not fallen into the grounds tray. The water tank is not that big so does need filling up regularly. Overall it’s a fairly small footprint and easy to use.

Firstly, this is a wonderfully compact machine. The engineering is great, with minimal bits and pieces to have to deal with. This is something that i’ve found lets a lot of bean-to-cup machines down, in that they’re so complex and fiddly that after the novelty wears off (and quickly), they just gather dust. There’s no such issue with this machine. Operation is very straightforward, as is any cleaning pre- or post-use. My biggest irk, which was overcome, is that it does take a bit of learning to find out where the bean-grinding settings and the use of the steam wand will suit the taste you’re going for. Our first few tries made me feel as if i were in at mid-range frankfurt business hotel coffee machine–too bitter, too hot, no froth. But once you get a hang of things in terms of what the change to grind size does to the taste of the coffee, it becomes wonderful. A note: they provide two parcels of beans to get you started.
