Flare Audio Flares JET 2 In Ear Isolating Earphones : Nice build but bass heavy.

I bought these jet 2’s at least in part to compare to the jet 1’s. I liked the jet 1’s for their interesting open sound signature, and great bass response, and was interested to see what the upgraded more ‘pro’ model could deliver. In the pack were the same set of accessories as the jet 1’s, with a selection of tips, and carrying pouch. The construction is identical, aside from the body of the iem’s themselves, which is cnc milled aluminium. They look absolutely stunning in person, and feel light but solid; absolutely no fear about shoving these quickly into a pocket, they feel as though they can stand up to some abuse. The cable also feels hardwearing, exactly like the jet 1. As with the jet 1, i found fit was extremely important, and favoured a much shallower insertion. I also found that wrapping the cable over the top of my ears meant that they sat at a favourable angle for the flares jet technology to angle the sound towards my eardrums. Both jet models seem to require significantly more precise direction of their sound than other iem’s i have tried, but when they are pointed in the right direction they produce some really fantastic sound. The jet technology, (from what i have read, a combination of pressure balancing and acoustic lens use) is definitely something that is worth exploring more, possibly in something with more of a custom shell so that the drivers can be aimed even more precisely towards the eardrum.

I have had these for a few weeks now and i can say that i am very impressed. Great separation between different instruments when listening to rock etc and they do give the feel that you are actually listening to the music live. Great base, but not over heavy and nice crisp treble and middles. Overall they give great depth and range to any genre of music.

I was so impressed with the jet 2’s little brother -the jet 1- that i could not resist the lure of getting these as a second pair. The same “no-frills” packaging is used. Which i always find reassuring with well designed and built products. They share the same excellent sonic strengths as their entry level relative -namely incredible bass, minimal distortion at high levels, detail shining though despite awesome bass- but seem to be even more engaging and involving somehow. The patented “jet” technology really does seem to separate these earphones from the competition for my ears. Especially for the money they are asking for them. Have a look at their website for a brief explanation. Sturdily built, exactly like the jet 1’s, but with a cool looking -and feeling to the ear- aerospace aluminium housing instead of the lighter in weight plastic of the entry level model. The wires don’t tangle easily and look like they’re going to last well.

I recently bought the jet 1’s which i love and needed a second pair to leave at work so tried the jet 2. I mean the jet 1s sound incredible and these are equally impressive; i’m not sure there is a huge difference in the sound. Both are by far the best in-ear headphones i have ever heard – the bass is full and warm without being overbearing, and the overall sound is delightfully balanced. I have heard details in songs that i’ve never noticed before since i’ve been using the jet headphones. Sound isolation is also superior to other sets i’ve had, so good for use on public transport etc. The jet2s are also very light and comfortable; other than the beasty sound in my ears, i wouldn’t really notice i was wearing them. I for sure would pay the extra for the jet 2s again, because whilst the sound improvement is not whopping in upgrading, the the jet 2s feel substantially more robust and look a lot nicer, i could imagine myself breaking the jet 1s but would be impressed if i could do the same for the 2s. I can’t recommend these highly enough.

My girlfriend hijacked my jet 1s, so i thought i’d try these. The jet 1s were great and i really liked the clarity of sound, the depth of the bass and the noise isolation they provided. They still the really rich warm bass, but they also are a touch sharper. The highs and mids have pronounced articulation. The aluminium provides slightly less noise attention, and this (probably along with the material qualities of the aluminium) allows the highs and mids that extra clarity. To be honest it took some listening between the two to tell the difference and i would have been perfectly happy with my jet 1s, but these are a step up for sure. The silver looks pretty cool too. All the other features of the jet 1 stand true also – great build quality, decent ear buds, tangle free funky cabling, mic and on/off switch.

I recently bought the flares jet 1 and was extremely happy with them so i thought i’d give the jet 2’s (the upgraded pro model) a try. The major difference between the two is that the jet 2’s are made from aluminium (as opposed to the jet 1 which are polymer. ) they are both very well constructed, light and comfortable although my preference leans towards the aluminium for the durability (plus they look very cool) as i mentioned in my previous review of the 1’s i have a lot of trouble finding earphones that fit without falling out frequently and these stay in perfectly and comfortably (even whilst running. ) like the jet 1’s they are beautifully packaged and look modern and ultra slick. To test the earphones i used the same tracks as i did for the jet 1’s. First up was quantz’ flute concerto in am. As with the jet 1’s i was immediately struck by the clarity and detail of the sound. All of the instruments sounded detailed in their own right and the timbre of the flute sounded phenomenal. Again the level of spaciousness and the reproduction of dynamics was spot on and if i closed my eyes i’d swear that i was watching a live concert. The difference i found between the two models straight away was that the midrange was more present in these ones and that the sound generally had a more light and airy quality to it than the 1’s.

Really happy with these, such great depth and richness to the sound, the bass comes through very strong but keeps it’s clarity which i’ve not found often with small in ear headphones. The fit is good and they are very comfortable, they provide 3 sizes of covers so adjust as needed. They block out a lot of background sound and have very little leakage so great on the bus, i can be rocking out and not disturb anyone. Build quality seems excellent too, solid little metal headphones and a robust little rubber cable.

Bought these for my girlfriend as i was pretty positive the iems that came with her phone weren’t doing enough justice to the blessing that listening to music is. I’ve been meaning to introduce her to the fascinating world of actually decent earphones and the jet 2s looked like the perfect starting point from what i’ve heard about them. Instead of just giving them to her and hope for the best, i thought i’d be sensible to give them a go and see if they live to the hype. Boy little did i know i was in for a treat. Disclaimer: i’m a musician and an audiophile of sorts, own multiple earphones and headphones that are dramatically more expensive than the jets. Needless to say, i can’t realistically expect to be blown away by £70 earphones if my daily driver is literally 14 times more expensive than that. In the end, the sheer cost-benefit and the lack of annoyances did positively blow me away. To get a few of things out of the way:- don’t expect a flashy package or unnecessary add-ons. It’s neatly presented, but in a simplistic way – they went all out with sound and build quality instead. – it does come with three size options of silicone tips.

  • Amazing feat of engineering
  • Same incredible sound as the Jet 1s, but more robust and attractive set of earbuds Worth the extra ££.
  • Simply astounding

Nice quality build, err on the bassy side. The cable has a rubbery feel and grips and pulls on clothing.

Far exceeded all expectations. Love the high-end oaky sound. Can’t get enough of hifiheadphones.

Excellent sound, good price for the quality.

Arrived on time and well packaged. Still running in but sounding good so far.

I’ve used plenty of in-ear headphones with the various rubber tips and never had any problems. But i just can’t get a good fit with these. They stick out a long way from my ears, they never seem to be perfect. When they are perfectly in, after a few minutes of tweaking they sound excellent. But then i move my head and the fits gone. Dissapointing to be honest, and i probably should have returned them. Back to using my old sennheisers.

Have been using these for couple of weeks and i’m very happy with these earphones. They are amazing for their value. The sound is very clear and the bass is just right, also there is no noise spill. When you have listened through these earphones you will never want to use any other.
