During the working week I will always make an effort to do my hair and makeup in the morning, even if there is no need to do so. I’m not fussed about having my hair up in a ponytail or going out with no makeup on what so ever – not even mascara – but it’s nice to make an effort from time to time, as it makes me feel good. Weekends will usually be spent in slacks, hair in a Miss Trunchbull-style bun and no makeup on, or perhaps last night’s panda eyes. Oops. But for the purpose of this post, I thought I’d share with you the ‘everyday’ makeup products I use for a day in the office.
No7 Instant Illusions Airbrush Away Primer.
I’ve tried many primers during my whole one year of even using them, but nothing comes close to this one or the Wonderblur primer from The Body Shop. They each have their own benefits, but when it comes to everyday use and easy to apply application, this primer is my best friend. Although an issue I need not worry about, it helps to reduce signs of ageing with light diffusing particles. They are designed to make you look instantly younger by putting fine lines, wrinkles and pores into soft focus. The latter is my favourite part. I have large pores, so although I can’t make them vanish completely – I wish – minimising their appearance is still a winner in my eyes.
No7 Smoothing & Brightening Eye Base.
Don’t worry, it’s not all No7 products here but their base products are phenomenal in my eyes. I’ve repurchased this eye base probably three times now. It’s a repurchase that will continue to be bought again and again. Firstly, it helps to make your eyelids one tone by covering any visible veins, making the lids appear smooth in texture. Secondly, the pink tone of the products helps to brighten the skin around your eyes too. Plus, although not advertised as a primer, it keeps eyeshadows in place all day long.
The Body Shop Moisture Foundation in Shade 02.
This is the ideal foundation for anyone with dry skin. The moisturising formula helps keep skin moisturised, plus makes application a dream when using The Body Shop Foundation Brush. I normally go with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush when applying liquid base products, but it’s always nice to put to products by the same brand hand in hand.
The Body Shop Illuminating Bronzer in Warm Glow 02.
Another body shop beauty which I actually bought during last year’s Black Friday deals. The Body Shop were doing 3 for 2 across all products and the shop assistant was kind enough to sit me down and try all my chosen products on me to ensure I liked the finish. I am a sucker for good customer service, but also for a free mini makeover! I’m not into the whole contouring malarkey if I’m going to be honest, but being pale does mean I want a little glow and warmth to my skin without it looking heavy and worse of all, orange. This bronzer is perfect for providing both. I apply it using the Nars Ita Brush.
L’Oréal Color Riche Les Ombres Eye Palette in S6 Jungle Jade.
After getting this as part of a free gift set when purchasing some L’Oreal goods, I’ve never been happier (when it comes to eyeshadows that is). The shadows themselves are so pigmented, with intense colour payoff like no other shadows I’ve tried before! The only down fall is, the shimmer. I prefer matte or cream shadows with no shimmer or glitter, as I’m just not into that. However, I simply use the lightest highlighter shades for the corner of my eyes and a smudge of the greyish brown along the lash line, and I’m good to go.
Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl Eyeliner in Super Black.
I had never tried any Soap & Glory makeup product before this, so was a little hesitant spending the £5 on this one as I used to think the brand (other than their face cleanser) was a bit of a gimmick. Nevertheless, I’m always one to hold my hands up and admit I’m wrong, which is certainly the case here. This is the best eyeliner you will buy. Pigmented, super intense black, waterproof, long-lasting and even has a sharpener in the lid!
Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara in Film Noir.
After being pleasantly surprised by their eyeliner, which will be purchased in every colour may I say, their mascara was next on my list. Firstly, can we all admire the packaging? Black and gold really is splendid to look at, wouldn’t you say? The mascara wand separates every lash perfectly making them look as natural as possible, whilst adding boldness and length to give you those va va voom lashes you’ve always wanted.
Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in 005 Parisian Passion.
I certainly don’t wear lipstick every day, but on the days I do this is the one I reach for. The colour may seem daring for work, but it’s a colour I personally believe suits me best which is why I feel comfortable enough to wear it anywhere. The colour pay-off is fantastic, the formula is nourishing for the lips and non-drying, but the longevity of the product is the real highlight for me. After drinks, eating and non-stop natter, this bad boy stays put!
