Melitta AromaFresh Grind and Brew : Great, simple coffee machine

Only made a couple of brews so far, but have to say what a great coffee taste very easy to use, and very well made. Cleaning should be easy as well, as it very accessible.

Okay, so it’s not made of iron girders but compared to other kitchen equipment it definitely has a nice quality feel to it. Using it is a straight forward with no annoying fiddly bits. Getting used to the new process of fresh coffee making is harder than any design complications the machine contributes. It makes it all very straight forward. Problems i have faced are all my fault and i have done them all . :forgetting to put the water in (daft)forgetting to put the new filter in (messy)or forgetting to put enough beans in (weak coffee – the biggest sin). And of course, not being able to sleep at night because i have drunk too much coffee during the day. I haven’t forgotten to put the empty jug under (very messy) there is time yet. Looks like it needs descaling (nice unexpected feature) after 30-50 uses in hard water area. That soon comes around when you first get it so get some de-scaler quite soon if you get one.

When deciding on a drip coffee machine i did a lot of reading of reviews, by professionals and customers. It had to be approved by the european coffee brewing centre; coffee machines are expensive and i wasn’t prepared to shell out money for a machine that had a lot of mixed reviews on a gamble that i might have one of the better experiences, so this really narrowed down my options. The technivorm moccamaster would have been my ideal choice but i couldn’t bring myself to pay approx. £160 – £200 for a machine that makes coffee, no matter how good that coffee may be. When it comes to coffee machines melitta has been in the business for sometime so i felt like they were a safe bet. So here’s my experience with the aroma signature deluxe model. Appearance: it looks amazing. Ok, so the important thing is whether or not it makes good coffee, considering this is something that’s going to be out on display all that time, we want it to look good too. Build quality: the machine is made from a combination of brushed stainless steel and black plastic, with a clear plastic water compartment. The machine feels solid and even the plastic components feel sturdy and capable of withstanding a lot of use.

This is probably the best filter coffee machine we’ve ever had. It has everything we ask for. There’s a removable water tank, which makes filling it a breeze. The filter cone swings out with a satisfying quality action, and will take a reusable filter if you want. It’s pretty powerful, so even a full jug of coffee will be ready in five minutes, and it is absolutely piping hot. It’ll keep the coffee warm for up to an hour, which is less than our previous machine but when it’s that fast to make fresh, who cares. It’s way better than anything we’ve had which uses a flask as the jug. There’s also a timer so you can wake up to freshly made coffee. In my opinion, the pictures don’t do this justice. It looks a lot better on the counter top, and even our somewhat jaded teenaged children remarked on how cool it looksthe one i ordered (at half price it was an absolute steal) came from germany, so i needed a european to uk adapter plug, but those aren’t expensive and that shouldn’t put anyone off.

At time of purchase there were no reviews for this machine so i felt i was taking a bit of a chance on it. Especially as the product description was terrible. But i needn’t of worried this is a top notch filter coffee machine. Besides this is a brand new product. The obvious answers to the obvious questions. Yes the water reservoir is removableyes the jug is double skinned stainless steelyes it has a timeryes it is quite large but because of design doesn’t imposeyes it is very attractiveyes it has an aroma setting which makes even lovelier coffeeyes the coffee filter swings out in order to fit filter and coffeeyes most of it is plastic but it seems of a good qualityyes it is very easy to use and set the timer which by the way stores your set time so no need to keep inputting ityes i would buy this over the bosch given the choice over againyes you should definetly buy one if your in the market for a filter machineyes it makes a beautiful cup of coffeeyes you’ll never drink instant againyes we have no regrets on purchasing this coffee machineyes the led lights are very bright when set on timer but they shouldn’t draw much power and do offer a pleasant night light in the kitchen. Updatebeen using the machine for a couple of months now almost daily and have not had any bother with it at all. Still loving this coffee machine and would highly recommend. One tippre heat the stainless steel jug with some hot water and the coffee stays much warmer for longer.

I’ve been holding back judgement on this item until after i’ve used it for a couple of months. Well, the verdict is in and this is one of the best coffee makers i’ve owned. Seriously, the corner fit is very practical, the settings are easy to use and each pot of coffee is delicious. Like all coffee makers, it does take a few attempts at hit and miss coffee batches until you find that personal balance between the grind, strength, flavour and taste. It brews quite quickly, so there is always a fresh cup ready within minutes. My only gripe is that the basket should be a bit deeper, which means lightly folding up the bottom of the paper filter about and inch so that the everything is nestled snugly for an effective brew.

Mixed feelings: everything appears to be here – and if you like starbucks standard coffee then this will probably suit you. However, if you like your coffee strong then this machine will not produce it for a full pot. The reason is that the maximum water with the maximum strength just doesn’t cut it. Sure, you can set it for 10-cup strength and fill the water tank for only for 8 cups (or a variation thereof) but that’s not so good if you want a full pot of strong coffee to share. You also can separately grind your beans and add those to the filter or even add a couple of scoops to the filter and let the machine do the rest but it is then not automatic and not really any better than using a separate (burr-) grinder with a non-timer filter-coffee machine. Finally, it also suffers from the curse of all ‘gravity-fed’ grinders in that it sometimes ‘grinds’ thin air and so the coffee can be even weaker than expected. I am keeping it but for my own coffee i’ll be using it without the automatic grinding.

This replaced our 12 year old siemens porsche filter machine, which is no longer made. It took a lot of looking to find a good (and good looking) replacement. We just wanted great tasting filter coffee, no timers, grinders, bells or whistles, so this fitted the bill nicely. It’s in a prime position in the kitchen, so looks are a bit important and we really like the deconstructed, ‘laboratory’ look of the thing. Main thing is that the coffee is excellent and the open design of the machine means that the aroma while brewing spreads nicely through the house. There is a little blue light that comes on in the water reservoir when you start to fill it. This is nice as it lets you see the otherwise faint level markings more clearly. If i were to nitpick, i’d say the filter part feels rather ‘plasticky’, but then it is made from plastic .

Bought this to replace the aroma elegance when the jug cracked and although i don’t use the timer, the clock is handy. I am still mulling on whether or not to buy the stainless steel jug to go with it as i had my other one for a few months and it was excellent. The jug pours easily (i guess that the neck has to be narrow to facilitate this); i love the way the filter swings sideways and it is so easy to fill with water because the water container just lifts out. The coffee tastes the same as any other coffee maker.
