Today marks one week and one day since me and my boyfriend moved into our first home together as first-time buyers, and boy has it gone fast. Moving is stressful enough, but when you move a mere 4 days before Christmas and are trying to fit in seeing friends and visiting family etc. at the same time, it feels ten times more stressful than if we were to just book a couple days off work.
Anyhow, considering it was only just over a week ago we moved in, we’ve actually got a lot done! All I can say is, I’ve never been to B&Q so many times in my life as I have these last 8 days – with some days consisting of up to three trips in the space of a couple hours. Nevertheless, we’re all moved in and I can’t wait to start decorating the whole house with various colour schemes once we officially decide on what we’re going for. One room we are set on however, is the kitchen.
As we bought a new-build, we could choose our worktops and cupboard doors etc. so we had our ‘dream’ kitchen from the moment we moved in. As we chose light wooden worktops and white gloss doors, we decided our accent colour was going to be copper – and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s all turned out so far.
I’m not going to show the entire house on this blog, as I’ll be sticking to the kitchen and my ‘office’ only (I do like to keep some things private, believe it or not), but today I’m going to give you a peek of what our kitchen’s current state is, what bits and bobs we’ve already got (and are also on the way), and then a list of our upcoming decorating ideas we want to do by the end of next year. Let me know your thoughts!
First things first, the appliances. No kitchen is complete without a set of good appliances to get the basics done. Our kitchen was pre-fitted with an integrated fridge/freezer, electric oven and gas hob (I genuinely prefer a gas hob to electric), but we’re provided with space to fit our own washing machine and dishwasher if we choose. We opted for the Candy Grand’O Vita 9kg Washing Machine* from ao.com which looks perfect under the sink and even has a couple cool features like the Smart Touch system which you can link up to your phone. It’s only since becoming a homeowner that I now get all excited over things like this. Anyone else?
We’ve also got a Beko Standard Dishwasher on the way from ao.com this Sunday, as it’s at a bargain price of £199 right now, so we jumped straight on that! Personally, it seems a little silly having a dishwasher for a household that holds just two adults, BUT I’ve never had one before and figured it’d be nice to have from time to time!
As for the copper decorations and smaller appliances, the majority of these were from Wilkos – they have the most stunning range of copper kitchenware and the best thing is, they’re affordable too. The likes of our copper microwave, kettle, toaster, 30L kitchen bin, fruit bowl and kitchen roll holder were all from there. So, if you’re also on the lookout for some copper kitchenware, I can highly recommend.
Lastly, our plans for the kitchen. As a whole, nothing really needs doing to it, but we do want to add a little colour to the walls, as it looks a little plain right now. Above the sink we plan to get a shelving unit to hold some fresh herbs we wants to grow, recipe books (goodness knows how many I’ve counted in boxes so far) and even some copper saucepans (of course – but does anyone know any good ones? Pass links my way!). On the walls themselves, we plan to tile them up to the height of the bottom of the top cupboards. We prefer the brick-style tiles and would love to go for a light, olive green. Not a choice we’d usually go for in terms of colour, but for the kitchen and colour-combo we’ve currently got going on, I think it’ll work!
