If Pur Cosmetics is a new brand to you, then here’s a little background to who they are, and what they’re all about: Pur mineral makeup is all about offering makeup with a purpose. All products you’ll find offered by the brand contain ingredients which are good for your skin, letting you play around with your makeup on a daily basis, whilst doing some good for your skin at the same time – who new skincare and makeup would work as the perfect duo? The brand is also 100% cruelty-free and does not test on animals. In a post about natural makeup products, I spoke about Pur Cosmetics’ Lip Lure products which I still enjoy using to this day, but today I want to share with you my top picks from their newest releases as of the last couple months, including the newest members to their Lips family.
Their Velvet Matte Liquid Lipsticks* come in a range of 10 different shades, ranging from your subtle Oh Bae, to your more daring Dutty Wine. I’ve tested the two shades; Ever After and About Last Night from the collection, and you want to know my first impression? They make your lips look bigger without looking like a clown. I believe pairing this with the On Point Lip Liner by Pur Cosmetics clearly helps, but on its own my lips looked naturally plumper and more rounded, as opposed to my usual flat lip.
Matte lipsticks look stunning, but are something I’ve always avoided myself due to naturally dry lips which do not bode well with mattifying products. Nevertheless, once velvet matte lip products hit the market, I was quick to jump on board and see what the difference was (if any). The formula is really creamy, non-drying for your lips, but has crazy pigmentation with one swoosh of the wand applicator. As for the longevity, it does last well in comparison to other lipsticks, but I do find it transfers quite a bit. However, this may be where I need to find a happy medium of how much I actually put on. Nevertheless, I’ll just follow my own tips on how to make your lipstick last longer!
As for the colours, Ever After I was most sceptical about – pink is not my colour at all, no matter what form it comes in. However, this shade is more muave with a slight purple-tone to it, which complements my skin tone so well. As for About Last Night, I love purple lipsticks. I’m unsure whether they suit my complexion or not, but it’s a shade which I enjoy wearing. It’s not as purple as how it shows in the bottle, but in all honesty, I prefer it once I’m wearing it!
To create the perfect duo, I paired the Velvet Matte Liquid Lipsticks with Pur Cosmetics newest lip liners; On Point Lip Liners*. The first thing I love about these, is their self-sharpening lids. The design of the package is well thought out, as every time you unscrew the lid, it’ll sharpen the liner for you when needed. This doesn’t necessarily mean every time you go to use it, as it may not require it, but you’ll know every time you use it, it’ll be good to go.
I tried out the shade Tutu which is a lovely light pink, which goes really well with the Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Ever After. The second shade I tried was See Thru. If I’m going to be completely honest, I don’t get the point of this one whatsoever. You’re supposed to use this prior to applying your lip product to prep & prime the outline of your lips before going in with the above, but I didn’t notice the benefit of this step. If anything, I’d prep my lips with my standard lip balm for £1 from the supermarket, then go in with the rest – I wouldn’t personally spend £16 on this product specifically, but I would be open to spending that on the other colour options available.
Lastly, we have the Pur Cosmetics Vanity Palette in the shade Dream Chaser. I got this a couple months back, but haven’t stopped use the cheek-based products inside since. Inside the circular palette you’ll find: a highlighter, blusher, bronzer and four eye shadows in a variety of neutral shades. The shadows are very pigmented, but I’m currently obsessing over my Urban Decay Ultimate Basics palette, so haven’t really been tempted to reach for these yet. However, the blusher inside this is my favourite – you only need one dab of the brush, as it picks up the colour so well. The highlighter on the other hand isn’t as pigmented as my Makeup Obsession highlighter in H112 Lightning from Boots (find here), but it’s perfect for when I want a subtle touch of luminosity to my cheeks on a daily basis.
There you have it, my top picks from Pur Cosmetics.
