Sennheiser HD 4 : It’s All About The Sound

Before i start, something needs to be clarified with these headphones. When i received these, i plugged the cable (which wasn’t a 3. 5mm, by the way) into the headphones to discover that sound was only coming out of one cup. This was because to plug them in you need to listen out for a click, you then twist the cable and push it in again. This was not said anywhere and was quite confusing. However, these headphones are amazing. I’m loving the sound quality, they are surprisingly comfortable and are definitely worth the money, in my opinion. First pair of sennheisers, and hopefully not the last.

First and foremost these are definitely worth the current cost of c £90- smart and well framed the comfort factor is high- the sound is good and clear and crisp for a none purist and it’s important to state they are not bluetooth so it’s a plug in – tried on an iphone6 they worked simply and successfully and will require the new jack that i am told with the i7 comes in the box with the new phone- there is some degree of noise cancelling due to the good ear pads fitting and for me they are a good buy.

These lack sense of range or depth quality, that perhaps one may find if i were to compare these to my beats headphones. But i must say there are quite lovely otherwise and i do like the white and gold design, which makes a change for the usual sennheiser black. They are comfortable on the ear and as closed headphones offer a decent if not perfect level of noise cancellation. Again for a mid-budget headphone i think this comparable with other brands. I would certainly recommend these. I was unable to test however the call answering function as i was sent the android version and i have an ios device. But i would imagine this to be pretty standard, though start to think twice about investing in expensive headphones if they are not wireless as that is the direction the technology is going.

We have a lot of headphones in our house – from budget brands to beats to sennheiser. Our sennheiser’s are a few years old now so i wasn interested to see what these would be like. They are very nicely packaged, in sturdy packaging that prevents the earphones from getting damaged. The earphones themselves are big and won’t suit everyone. They are white with gold accents and fold down for storage purposes. The sound quality is excellent – you can’t hear anything else when you have them on. The noise cancelling properties are second to none. My husband loves these and says they are easily the best headphones we own. For me, whilst the sound quality is fab, i have two issues – firstly, they are huge and dwarf my ears. I prefer the size of the beats.

On par with my old philips shp8000 and that is not easy to match. However, a little tip: push the micro jack into the headphones really well. I nearly returned these due to poor sound – the micro jack was not all the way in crossing channelsalso, on the funny side. There is a free gift – a little hat or swimming cap inside the box.

Love the sound and headphones but walking with these for 4-5 months and the cable that comes with them is already faulty. Reason i went with siehiser is i thought id not have this isse and have a beter quality on the cable. Now i have to send it back and be without headphones till sienhiser sends me them repaired or replaced. Either way i feel angry that a par 100 pound cost headphones should be having this issue after only 4 months. Id recommend going with another pair just because of this issue. Sound is awesome on them until the cable gives up.

Not a great deal of noise isolation, but these are a nice, aesthetic, and comfortable set of headphones. The bass on them is awesome, especially when listening to my favoured nu metal. No aching / soreness or discomfort when wearing around the head. The range of extension on the headset size seems limited – if you’ve got a big head, these might not fit.Plentifully loud for the budding audiophile, they don’t offer the range or depth of quality of sound, but they are a rock solid mid-range headset.

I’ve been a fan of sennheiser headphones for about 5 years now, and have had 3 or 4 pairs in that time. These are not the best for me personally, though they do offer great sound as i’ve come to expect from the brand. The main issues for me are that they are just too large to be worn in public without looking ridiculous. The other is that the headband pushes lightly on the top of my head in a way that causes headaches unless i wear them in a certain way. This is probably down to my head, but it is not a problem that i’ve had with many other headphones. On the plus side, as already mentioned the sound is great, and they are comfy over the ears (if a little hot). The cord is a good length and the fact that it is detachable is handy. Overall these are a good pair of headphone, just not quite right for me.

This is a well-made, relatively lightweight set of headphones that packs away neatly when not in use. The sound quality is very good, although i found the treble slightly ‘tinny’ compared to an older, heavier sennheiser headset. The headset comes neatly packaged in a robust but stylish black box. For some reason, the manufacturers have decided to print information and basic instruction on the box in minute lettering in grey ink, so i recommend you open the package in good light with a magnifying glass to hand. This is annoying, but clearly does not affect the performance of the headset. Also in the box is a black cloth drawstring bag in which you can store the headphones when not in use. The cable that connects the headset to your device is thin and, unlike my older headset, it is not coiled, so it may be prone to tangling if you are not careful. The jacks at either end are small but robust and it takes a few moments to figure out how to attach the cable to the headset – once achieved, it is held firmly in place. The cable has inline remotes that control calls, music playback and volume control on compatible apple, samsung and other smart devices. This is described as a ‘close-around ear’ headset.

First up let’s be clear: everybody’s ears and musical tastes are different. I listen to a lot of audio drama, rock music and electronic. I tried these on a reasonable sony walkman and compared these to my normal philips fidelio m1 mkii headphones. These sennheisers currently cost £89, the philips £120 (depending on various deals). For my tastes the philips are far superior, easily worth the extra money. Out the box the sennheisers seem well made, fold nicely and cover the ears well. They are bigger than my normal headphones (just) and i found the removable cable difficult to insert. At first i only got one side working until i realised the socket needs to twist and lock. I still found it fiddly to insert. For listening to audio drama these are decent enough, perhaps a bit limited in depth.

For a mid-range set of earphones these sennheiser hd 4. 30g’s a reasonably okay, but not earth shattering. They look nice, the build quality is good and the large padded cups make them comfortable to wear and while the important part, the sound, is okay i do feel that comparing them to other similarly priced headphones as well as more expensive ones they’re slightly lacking. The sound is clear enough, but for me lacks oomph, for want of a better phrase, but again that’s more personal taste as there’s certainly nothing wrong with these headphones. If this is the price range you’re looking at then these are worth testing along with others, but if you’re comfortable spending a bit more then there’s quite a difference when you step up to the next level of headphones.

However, i only use them in the house. I’m not comfortable walking around the street with massive cans on my head. My boyfriend also likes to use them if he gets up during the night when he can’t sleep. He can put the tv/dvd/playstation on without disturbing me. One of the downsides with closed cup headsets is they can make your ears very hot and a bit uncomfortable if you wear them for too long. But the sound quality is second to none. The bass is really deep, and you can hear every strum of guitars and every breath the artist takes. The headphones do fold down so they are quite compact, and with having one cable there is no chance of getting tangled up.

If you want a better headset, that covers more of your ears, get the razer kraken.

30i’s are sennheiser’s budget around ears. Out of the box you get the headphones, a satin look storage pouch (no hard case protection) and a lead. First impressions are excellent with surprisingly good build quality especially at this price point. These might be all-plastic but there are good materials all around and these look like they could last quite a while. The hinges in particular are solid and feel good with the headphones folding smoothly. The lead is detachable but here we get to the first couple of issues;a) the lead follows bose’s annoying penchant for a 2. 5mm phones connector which means you can’t use any old 3. 5mm jack is tough to get in and out of the socket, which is an issue because it means you are going to yank the phones off your head if you snag the leadc) the cable itself tangles more easily than somethe headphones themselves are decent quality and fair at this price. They aren’t going to blow you away but they don’t cost £250 either. They are perfectly good all rounders for a short commute and they even do a reasonable job at blocking sound and not leaking it (at half volume). Some might find the cushions a bit too thick and unless you have very small ears you are going to find the them sitting on rather than around them. A good entry point for a good brand, but if you can afford another £100 or so, spend it, you won’t regret it.

Brilliant headphones, very good sound quality would recommend for listening to music all the way to gaming and watching films, these headphones are terrific. Noticed that a lot of people are complaining about only one headphone working, you have to make sure the cable is in the headphones properly. When i first received them i encountered the same issue, music was only coming out the left side. Shortly after messing about i realised the cable that the chord that goes into the headphones was only halfway in. They worked fine after giving them a slight push in. All the others complaining about ‘faulty batches’ of headphones are probably just doing the same mistake as me, take no notice, great headphones 5 stars.

I was very excited when  received these earphones. Then became very frustrated as the sound was only coming through to one ear. I had to read forums to find that there is a method of putting in the jacks. You have to ensure you get a click when you push the jack into the headphones and then twist the chord. There is a little diagram on the box that i didn’t notice until after i realised you have to click and turn the jack. As i didn’t click that the sound in one ear only was related to the jack connection i think it would be helpful if the instruction was a little clearer. the initial frustrating start was such a shame as once that was sorted they are super. I have the white android set. They look good, are very comfortable with soft leather padding which mostly covers the ears.   i’m delighted by the sound quality, they’ve improved my listening experience with the distinct sound, and clear bass.

Sennheiser HD 4.30i Around-Ear Closed back Headphones for iOS – Black

I am a fan of sennheiser headphones. These ones are white and gold. They are extendable on both sides. There is a small amount of cushioning over the head. There is a large amount of cushioning over the ears. They fit right over your ears and, to a certain extent, noise cancelling due to this. They come with their own carry case, and cable. They fold up like most headphones. These are wired – they are not bluetooth.

Update i think these phones need to be broken-in a bit before conclusions on ‘musicality’. Listening to fleetwood mac’s albatross at the moment, deep but quite clear on guitar solo plucking. And they really are very comfortable and warm on this 10 degree saturday morning in bed. Scream by paulo nutini has just put in a major claim for musicality. Comfort, good sounds and price. Another one of those free-for-review products i was really looking forward to using. First impressions were very good. They look ninety quids worth. They collapse very well, nice rubbery stop feel. Plastic has a lovely matt finish to the angular cup retaining arms.

This is the “sennheiser hd 4. 30i closed around-ear headset” which at first glance may seem like an expensive way to listen to music – but keep reading as they are feature packed and worth the cost. They have been designed with comfort and performance in mind with totally closed ear pads (hence the name) which act to reduce background noise and let you listen to audio in all the glorious detail. They are not just designed with music in mind as they include an in-line microphone for calls and a fixed remote to switch between audio tracks or to pause playback should someone interrupt your listening. The ear pads are soft and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. As expected from sennheiser sound quality is excellent across the spectrum and they can’t be faulted in this regard. For me it’s the extra attention to details that makes this a winning headset. Details such as the single thread audio cable to stop tangles and the highly adjustable headband to suit all sizes and shapes of heads.
